It is with a heavy heart that I report that Daniel Zuker, Bridges Academy Class of ’11, has passed away. Daniel was one of the subjects of my first documentary about the school, 2e: Twice Exceptional. He was charming, funny and a brilliant musician; he was a member of a successful rock ‘n’ roll band, The Scarlet Opera. Daniel lost his battle with Stage IV esophageal cancer on April 21, 2025. He was 33 years old. Below is a remembrance by Stuart Matranga, one of Daniel’s teachers at Bridges, who also appears in the 2e film.

I was deeply honored to be inducted into the 2e Hall of Fame by the Bridges Center for Research and Professional Development on June 28 for “outstanding work and unwavering advocacy for students who are twice-exceptional” (their quote, not mine). Congratulations to two of our Bridges Academy Alumni!
Singer/songwriter Charlie Hickey (class of ’18) opened for Phoebe Bridgers at her sold-out Greek Theater show in Los Angeles on October 21. Charlie’s song “Odds” is featured in the closing credits 2e2: Teaching the Twice-Exceptional. His new songs can be heard on Spotify or wherever you choose to listen to music.
O’Kelley Legends: 2e Behind the Scenes is a documentary feature by Harri James O’Kelley which follows her son, Bridges alum Jordan O’Kelley, as he attempts to adapt his book of comic autobiographical stories, “O’Kelley Legendary Legend of Legends, or How I Got Out of Homework in the 4th Grade” (available on Amazon) into a series of theatrical monologues, starring a primarily 2e cast. His journey is illuminating, heart-warming and inspiring.
